Management Team
CEO Dr Ben Nichols brings many years of experience in the commercialisation and licensing of technologies and products in the biopharmaceutical industry. He has held senior commercial and general management positions with Plasso Technology (BD Director), Kings (CEO) and CeNeS Drug Delivery (Commercial Director and General Manager) and earlier in his career he worked for Celltech Biologics. As Business Development Director for Plasso, a Sheffield University spin-out, he was instrumental in their successful trade sale exit to US multinational Becton Dickinson in 2007.

CTO and Co-founder Sarah Middleton brings more than 30 years’ experience in blood product and biopharmaceutical development including products such as HyateC, porcine Factor VIII, for the treatment of Haemophilia A and recombinant human albumin, as well as Synthocytes, a prototype platelet substitute. Sarah was previously Chief Scientist at Speywood; Director of Clinical, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs at Delta Biotechnology and Project Director at Andaris.

R&D Manager Dr Greg Walker was awarded a PhD in Pharmaceutics from University of Otago, New Zealand in 1999 for his work on oral peptide drug formulations. Dr Walker’s research has focused on various aspects of drug delivery systems with over 20 peer reviewed publications in this field. Prior to Haemostatix, Greg conducted postdoctoral research on peptide drug delivery systems at University of Vienna from 2000 to 2002 and systemic non-viral gene delivery systems at LMU Munich from 2002 to 2006.

Operations Manager Dr Jackie Appleby gained her PhD on the relationship between platelet activation and blood coagulation from the University of Leicester under the supervision of Professor Alison Goodall. She has ten years’ experience of research into platelets and blood clotting covering both standard and newer platelet function assays, with a special interest in flow cytometry. She is also a Chartered Accountant.
